ACECAU presents the project results "Support to the Canary Development from their Superior Educational Institutions"

This report, fostered by OCED, establishes a target element of discussion and debate among those sectors involved into the university system.

Canarian Agency for accreditation and quality assessment of the University system (ACECAU) displayed on 22th April, at 10:00 am, in Hotel Escuela from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the results about the project “Support to the development of the Canary Islands from their Higher Educational Institutions”, a report carried out by the  Organization for the Cooperation and Economic Development (OCED)together with ACECAU.

The act brought the attendance of representatives from Canary Universities, town council from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the chambers of Commerce and businessmen confederacy that prepared the general lines of working, looking a t the future and the goals of Bologna.

Three documents are the result of this labor. Two of them are focused, concretely, on the analysis of the canary region (“In supporting the Regions Development from their Superior Educational Institutions: 1.Self-evaluation report;” and “1.1.External Evaluation report”) and another one is that where the experiences of all the regions participating are gathered together. “Superior Education and Regions, Globally competitive and locally involved”, all of them published in 2007.

This report was carried out about February 2005and April 2006, as a part of OCDE’s general plan in which 24 region in 12 countries, with an only purpose: supplying superior education institutions and regional and national government with a coherent volume of politics and practices addressed to encourage the dialogue among universities and regional agents in supporting the development of their respective regions.

One of the most relevant recommendations in this report is the establishment of a regional of a Regional Superior Education system letting Canary Islands compete efficiently in this society of Knowledge. In this respect, this report sets up a wealthy starting-point. In the development of an action plan dedicated to endow Canary Islands with an integrated University System, which promotes the collaboration between Canarian Universities and regional agents.
